The Scalabrinian, called by God to sanctity in virtue of his baptism, tends to the perfection of charity toward God and neighbor by living his missionary vocation in community of life and the practice of the evangelical counsels through the simple vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Through intimate communion with Christ and his brothers and sisters, he will be able to reach a more complete personal, human and Christian maturity and a more efficacious apostolic activity (RL 38).
He responds to this invitation by committing himself to an adequate and continuing formation for which the Lord grants him his grace every day. By faithfully responding to his vocation, every Scalabrinian finds in Christ the way to his full realization and his path of holiness.
Jesus personally summoned "those whom he wanted" so that they would be his Apostles and stay with him and so that he could send them out to proclaim the Gospel. He prepared them with patient love and gave them the Holy Spirit to guide them to the fullness of Truth. He also summons us to live as apostles in the Church the plan of John Baptist Scalabrini: "to announce the mystery of salvation to the world of migrants. (RL 1)
What the first disciples experienced after meeting Jesus, what they experienced by sharing his life, listening to his word, welcoming his mystery, making the cause of the Kingdom their own, and assuming the evangelical life style he had commended - all this constitutes the experience of every Scalabrinian, as well.
