A vocation of special consecration to God has led us to be members of one of the three Institutes of the Scalabrinian Family, which in Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini - Father and Apostle to the migrants - acknowledges its Founder and Inspirer. We have taken upon ourselves the demands of the universal project of God's love, which is fulfilled in the Spirit of the Son, crucified and risen, even in the midst of the dramas and the poverty of every age. He becomes neighbor to the newer of the last, such as migrants and refugees, to give everyone salvation and the over-abundance of his life, whose fullness of mercy changes our valley of tears into a valley of springs. (Cf. Psalm 84:7).
Our consecration to follow Jesus with the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, in the diverse expressions of our priestly, religious and secular vocations, makes us ready to take upon us the anguish and the hopes of the migrants' exodus, as we journey trusting in the Father's providential love. We work with everyone, with the migrants especially, to fashion them into builders of communion in diversity. Even prior to being called for them, we are called with them: to be migrants with migrants, a pilgrim Family, actively awaiting His kingdom of justice and peace and becoming a living welcome of Son of God. He is at the door and knocks, even from behind the most diverse faces (cf. Ap 3:20; Mt 25:35).
Our consecration and our mission in the world of human mobility draw their meaning from the Eucharist, which is a foreshadowing and fulfilment of that universal communion which makes of us sons and brothers, members of the one body. Through the Eucharist's broken body and poured blood, we allow ourselves to be transformed by Christ's love: He continues his crucifixion until the end of time and Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini in his prayer to the Virgin Mary - "fac me cruce inebriari" - points Him out to us as our most precious heritage.
